Due to my background in props buying and set dressing, Katie O’Brien, Project Director at 44AD Artspace, Bath, asked me if I would like to co-curate a furniture and contemporary art exhibition.

The exhibition was a joint project between Out of the Dark and 44AD Artspace, bringing together the upcycled furniture produced by the project and artists who either responded to the pieces or submitted works that complemented the furniture.

Based in High Wycombe (which was once the epicentre of British furniture manufacturing), Out of the Dark is a charitable social enterprise that restores and revamps salvaged furniture as a means to train, educate and employ young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The charity's projects are all about supporting young people achieve a better life and steer away from crime, while drawing on the elements of craft, DIY and work skills.
